Norway Rat
These rats are brown with scattered black hairs with a grey to white underside and are long and heavily bodied.
They often nest in underground soil burrows near riverbeds, compost heaps, under houses and the like.
The Problem with Rats...
Rodents can be incredibly destructive by gnawing through electrical cables, ventilation systems and spoiling other movable goods. They damage crops, property and buildings. they taint water supplies and pose a human health risk. Being prolific breeders and combined with the ability to adapt to a wide range of habitats has enabled rodents to become the most widely distributed mammals in the world apart from humans.
At the same time, rodents can also survive successfully away from human settlements and have had devastating effects on our native flora and fauna.
